Former foster youth need your support
Young adults who've aged out of foster care are at exceptional risk due to insufficient public and private supports. As many as 75% of women and 33% of men coming out of the foster care system rely on government assistance to meet their basic needs.
Unemployment is exceedingly high in this population, and up to 50% of all former foster youths (FFYs) develop substance abuse problems and deal with other forms of self-harm. These important struggles make it even more difficult for FFYs to initiate positive changes. Having a support system that supports this population in their recovery processes, therefore, is vital.
It's also crucial to note that more than 25% of all FFYs suffer from PTSD and require extra support and accommodation to clarify their goals and continually take proactive steps toward their achievement. Unfortunately, with an overburdened public system, many former foster youths never receive these needed supports and accommodations.
Qumran Family Foundation has developed a set of programs that serves former foster youth by taking into consideration their various needs as dictated by the statistics provided. Our programs are also highly individualized, catering to the particular needs, goals, and capabilities of the individuals we are serving.
